Perched high on the volcanic slopes of Maui, the Haleakalā silversword is one of Hawaii’s most extraordinary native plants. After 5 to 50 years it sends up a 3-6 foot stalk with hundreds of maroon and yellow flowers producing 50,000 seeds then it dies shortly after.
