Dozens of people – many elderly – have been arrested in the United Kingdom after protest group Palestine Action was proscribed as a terrorist organisation.

But Sen. Mehreen Faruqi, deputy leader of the minor party Australian Greens, made a silent protest by holding up a sign in the chamber during Mostyn’s speech that said: “Gaza is starving, words won’t feed them, sanction Israel.”

The Trump administration pulled $400 million in federal funding from Columbia this year over its handling of pro-Palestinian protests in 2024.

The company won a $149 million missiles contract for Israel’s “Iron Dome” defense system in 2014. Protestors demonstrated outside their Richardson offices a day after at least 94 Palestinians seeking food were reportedly killed.

The banning of protest group Palestine Action has made the UK government an “international outlier” when it comes to political protest, lawyers representing one of its co-founders told the High Court in London on Monday.

The Metropolitan Police said 55 people were arrested in Parliament Square under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000 for displaying placards in support of Palestine Action. The force said a further eight people were arrested for supporting Palestine Action within a separate large-scale march to Whitehall on Saturday by the Palestine Coalition.

The pro-Palestinian protest that shut down Cal Poly Humboldt’s campus in spring 2024 is the subject of a federal investigation.
