Florida man, 79, was found dead after vanishing from the Mount Washington summit, ending a three-day search with his body recovered off-trail by rescuers.

A 79-year-old Jacksonville man who wandered off the summit of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire has prompted a multi-day search by state parks personnel, wildlife officers and volunteers, the New Hampshire Fish & Game Law Enforcement Division said.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officers rescued a hiker who fell, hit his head and lost a sneaker while hiking off trail on Mount Washington, officials said.

Authorities say that 79-year-old William Davis took the Cog Train and wandered off the summit. He was last seen near the observation deck at roughly 3:20 p.m. New Hampshire’s Fish & Game Department was notified at 6:00 p.m.
