The Trump administration has opened a federal civil rights probe into reports of antisemitism at Columbia University and several other colleges in the wake of last year’s Gaza protests, the Education Department said.

"There is no evidence to suggest that the actions of the UNH Police on May 1 were illegal," UNH President Elizabeth Chilton wrote.

The American Civil Liberties Union is suing the University of Michigan on behalf of five individuals who took part in pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

Five University of Michigan students have filed a lawsuit against their school after being banned from campus due to their participation in pro-Palestine protests.

"Today, the Department is putting universities, colleges, and K-12 schools on notice," said Craig Trainor.

The Trump administration launched reviews of multiple top US universities and medical schools over incidents of antisemitism on their campuses, days after the White House said it would tie federal funding to compliance with its orders.

Northwestern University and four other schools are being investigated by the Trump Administration's Department of Education for what it calls "widespread antisemitic harassment" in the wake of large pro-Palestinian protests that broke out on Northwestern's and other campuses last spring.
