A group of New Mexico firefighters left Thursday morning to head to California to help battle a series of major fires in the Los Angeles area.

Firefighters in New Mexico packed up their gear Thursday morning and are headed out west, to help with the wildfires devastating California. Some firefighters have experience fighting fires in California.

Several states have responded to calls for help, sending fire crews to California to combat wildfires in Los Angeles. Firefighters from neighboring states are already on the ground helping to contain the growing blaze.
