The Topeka Police Department has issued an Amber Alert after a 2-year-old child was taken from his mother by an unknown suspect.

Law enforcement has issued an Amber Alert for a child from Topeka Tuesday morning. The Topeka Police Department (TPD) told the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) at 11 a.m.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - On July 22, 2025, at 11:00 am, the Topeka Police Department provided the following information to the KBI: On 7-18-2025, Zebe Mendez was forcibly taken from his mother by an unknown suspect. Zebe is in imminent danger.

An AMBER alert that was issued for a Topeka, Kansas child has been rescinded after the child and the suspect were located in Mattoon Tuesday afternoon. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said the 23-month old child was last seen with the suspect,

SHAWNEE COUNTY– The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has issued an Amber Alert for 2-year-old Zabe Mendez, who was reportedly abducted from Topeka on July 21. Zabe Mendez was forcibly taken from his mother by an unknown suspect. Zabe is in imminent danger. His mother’s white four-door Lexus with unknown Kansas tag is also missing.

New York State Police said the father of a 9-year-old girl who was initially the subject of an Amber Alert and was later found dead has been charged with her murder.

A news conference will be held at 1 p.m regarding the Amber Alert issued for 2-year-old Zabe Mendez, of Topeka.
