As the New Orleans Saints head into the offseason looking to bolster their roster, the team is also looking for their next head coach with one in mind being Mike McCarthy, who was at the helm for the Dallas Cowboys last season. While the Saints will interview McCarthy, NFL insider Adam Schefter spoke about how he makes the most sense for the role.

You can certainly make a legit case for that. And in 2025, they’ll immediately get a chance to see if — and how — they could’ve upgraded with a new coach.

Several teams have hired new head coaches this offseason, but one team still looking for their next leader is the New Orleans Saints. After a severe snowstorm delayed their interview process, the Saints have rescheduled interviews with several of their top candidates, including former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.

Most notably, former Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is in the midst of scheduling an in-person interview with the Saints, according to Nick Underhill. The former Super Bowl champion interviewed with the Bears before they settled on Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson,

While it’s still unclear how Schottenheimer’s staff with the Cowboys will look, ESPN reported ex-Bears head coach Matt Eberflus is a “prime candidate” for the defensive coordinator job. Schottenheimer’s Dallas promotion leaves the Saints as the only team with a head coaching vacancy left to fill.

Remember, coming out of 2023, Daboll refused to let Kafka interview for Seattle’s play-calling offensive coordinator job under new defensive-minded head coach Mike Macdonald. Then Daboll, after forcing Kafka to return to East Rutherford, essentially stuffed him in a broom closet, fully stripping his play-calling duties.
