The former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn announced on Friday he was in talks to start a new political party because Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government had "refused to deliver the change" that voters expected during its first year in office.

Jeremy Corbyn has confirmed plans to build a new political party as an alternative to Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour, on the first anniversary of the prime minister’s landslide general election victory. The former Labour leader’s comments came a day after the MP Zarah Sultana announced plans to “co-lead the founding of a new party” with him.

Jeremy Corbyn is to set up a new left-wing party alongside a former Labour MP. Zarah Sultana, who lost the Labour whip a year ago and currently sits in the Commons as an independent, announced the move on X.
