Newcastle United have reportedly seen a club-record offer for in-demand striker Hugo Ekitike rejected by Eintracht Frankfurt. The Magpies are on the lookout for a new centre-forward this summer following the departure of Callum Wilson upon the expiration of his contract last month.

Newcastle submitted an initial £69.5million bid for Ekitike which represents a club-record fee. The Magpies’ current record transfer is the £63million paid to Real Sociedad for Alexander Isak in 2022 but it appears they are willing to break it to land Ekitike.

Sky Germany have been briefed by Eintracht Frankfurt that an offer just under £70million was knocked back by the Bundesliga club. It is understood that the striker has an £86m release clause and that Frankfurt want to see a bigger bid from the Magpies.
