Japan-based automaker Toyota is investing more than $912 million in the US to increase its hybrid vehicle production. What that means for Kentucky.

Toyota is investing $912 million in U.S. manufacturing to expand hybrid production and meet growing demand for electrified vehicles.

Toyota on Tuesday unveiled a $912 million investment in US manufacturing, days after CEO Akio Toyoda hosted a red, white and blue NASCAR event in Japan while sporting a Trump-Vance shirt and red MAGA hat.

The U.S. market has proven invaluable for Japanese automakers like Toyota. According to World’s Top Exports count, nearly 20% of the money U.S. consumers spent on auto imports went to Japanese car companies. The only country with a higher percentage was Mexico.

Toyota recently announced plans to invest $10 billion in the United States, but they didn’t say where that money was going or what it’d get them. The automaker is now filling in some of the blanks by revealing $912 million will go towards increasing hybrid production in America.
