Many considered Group E with Spain, Germany, Japan and Costa Rica the Group of Death in 2022. Japan won the group with two wins and a loss and Spain finished as the runner-up. Germany, a four-time World Cup champion, didn't even reach the knockout round. Both Japan and Spain, however, were eliminated in the Round of 16.
Each tournament, the term ‘Group of Death’ will be bandied about, with the unfortunate residents forced to contest a surprisingly competitive group at the first hurdle. They often contain at least two Goliaths—usually from Europe and/or South America—as well as several dark horses seeking to upset the odds.
Deandre Johnson, who played linebacker for four seasons for Tennessee football, has died. He was 26. Johnson’s agent, Hector Antonio Ruiz, confirmed his death to The Palm Beach Post on Dec. 3. The cause of death could not be independently established, according to The Palm Beach Post.
