GazaHezbollah's former leader Hassan Nasrallah, killed in an Israeli air strike in September, is to be buried in Beirut's southern suburbs, a traditional heartland for the group, its secretary general announced.

Hassan Nasrallah received a temporary burial as hostilities with Israel did not allow for a funeral to take place.

Funeral also to be held for Hashem Safieddine, another slain senior official of Lebanese group - Anadolu Ajansı

Secretary-General Naim Kassem made the announcement regarding his predecessor Hassan Nasrallah in a pre-recorded speech. It came days after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement that ended the war between the Lebanese militant group and Israel was extended until Feb 18.

The head of Lebanon's armed group Hezbollah said on Sunday that his predecessor, Hassan Nasrallah, would be laid to rest on Feb. 23, nearly five months after he was killed in an Israeli air attack on Beirut's southern suburbs.

Qassem said the group had now decided to hold 'a grand funeral procession with a large public presence' for both Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine

Hezbollah's current chief Naim Qassem announced the funeral date in a televised speech. Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on September 23.

Hezbollah announced Sunday that a funeral for Hassan Nasrallah and his successor Hashem Safieddine, who were killed by Israel more than four months ago, will take place later this month.
