TUESDAY, Feb. 18, 2025 (HealthDay News) -- Federal funding for medical research has dropped by roughly $1 billion this year, raising alarm among universities, medical centers and lawmakers who warn the shortfall could slow progress in cancer, diabetes and heart disease research.

According to College officials, 1,300 College employees and 400 Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center employees’ positions are funded by federal grants and could be at risk.

Although currently blocked by a federal court, the policy would limit research funding from NIH for “indirect costs,” or overhead expenses, to 15%.
