The New York Knicks reportedly have a candidate in mind to become their new head coach. Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported Tuesday that the Knicks have been telling prospective free agents that they are nearing a deal to officially name a replacement to fired coach Tom Thibodeau.

As free agency in the NBA begins on Monday night, the New York Knicks have a different major decision to make regarding their franchise. Of course, that decision involves their search for a new head coach after they elected to fire Tom Thibodeau after the season in a shocking move after he helped lead them to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.

For the Knicks he likely will take the place of free agent Precious Achiuwa. At 6-foot-8, 260-pounds, the 29-year-old Yabusele can serve as both a power forward and center. But Yabusele is a more dangerous threat from beyond the arc than Achiuwa, who has shot under 30% from deep for three straight seasons.

The Knicks are set to add a former NBA Sixth Man of the Year in free agency. Jordan Clarkson, the 2021 NBA Sixth Man with the Utah Jazz, will join the Knicks on the veteran’s minimum after clearing waivers with the Jazz, per ESPN. Clarkson is represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.

"Jordan Clarkson is expected to sign with the New York Knicks after he clears free agency waivers, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote on X. Clarkson will be an excellent bench addition for the Knicks. He's known for being a lethal three-point shooter and scorer when he's on, although he can be streaky.

The New York Knicks remain without a head coach after firing Tom Thibodeau this offseason, but their coaching search may have a light at the end of the tunnel.
