The British Army's failure to properly deal with a soldier's sexual assault complaint played "more than a minimal" role in her death, a coroner has said. Royal Artillery Gunner Jaysley Beck, 19, was found dead in her room at Larkhill Camp in Wiltshire on 15 December 2021.

On Thursday Assistant Coroner Nicholas Rheinberg ruled she died by suicide and determined the Army's handling of the complaint played "more than a minimal contributory part in her death". The Army said it "accepts the failings identified by the service inquiry".

On Thursday Nicholas Rheinberg, assistant coroner for Wiltshire and Swindon, found that this complaint being dealt with as a “minor administrative action” instead of being reported to police as a sexual assault was “more than a minimal contributory factor” in her death.

A 19-year-old soldier found dead in her room was sexually assaulted by a colleague and the army’s handling of this "played more than a minimal contributory part in her death,” a coroner has found.

Jaysley Beck's mother has accused the British Army of covering up the sexual assault her late daughter suffered in 2021. The body of Leighann McCready's 19-year-old daughter was found in a locker room at Larkhill Camp in Wiltshire.
