Spanish police said Sunday they had dismantled a human trafficking ring that they said had exploited more than 1,000 women in the past year, mainly Colombians and Venezuelans.

A Spanish human trafficking ring that has exploited more than a thousand women, mostly from Venezuela and Colombia, has been smashed by police.

More than 1,000 women, mainly from Venezuela and Colombia, were led to believe they had beauty or cleaning jobs, - but were lured to Spain for sex work, only allowed out for two hours a day, and kept under video surveillance.

The victims were also only allowed to go out for two hours per day and otherwise kept under video surveillance, police said.

Police say they have arrested 48 people, including three ringleaders, accused of trafficking more than 1,000 women from Colombia and Venezuela. The women were lured with false job ads.Police in southeastern Alicante,
