FRIDAY, July 18, 2025 (HealthDay News) — A new IVF technique helped eight babies in the U.K. avoid serious inherited diseases, and scientists are calling it a breakthrough. All eight children were born using a method that uses DNA from three people: the mother, the father and a donor.

Eight healthy babies were born in Britain with the help of an experimental technique that uses DNA from three people to help mothers avoid passing devastating rare diseases to their children, researchers reported Wednesday.

Children born through the three-person technique inherit most of their DNA, their genetic blueprint, from their parents, but also get a tiny amount, about 0.1%, from the second woman. This is a change that is passed down the generations.
