The Aga Khan IV passed away in Lisbon on Tuesday. He will be remembered by many as the ‘Imam of the Atomic Age’. Indians are most familiar with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, which has restored Delhi’s Humayun’s Tomb and the surrounding area.

"His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), passed away peacefully in Lisbon on 4 February 2025, aged 88, surrounded by his family," the foundation said on social media.

Hussaini, the new spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims, was named as the successor to his father, who died at 88.
